Steins;Gate Series Ported to PS3 + English Steam Release Rumours

Steins;Gate for PS3

The Steins;Gate series is continuously being ported to different platforms such as the PSPiPhone and Android. A PS3 version of Steins;Gate and the fan disc Hiyokurennri no Darling will now be released in May on the 24th [Source: Famitsu].

Both games are to be sold separately, and a “Double Pack” which includes both titles will be available for purchase also.

Rumours: Official English Version of Steins Gate on STEAM?

VNShourai has been working on a fan translation of Steins;gate but seem to have run into a few problems [Details can be read in their post], putting their project on hold.

The team had received an offer from JAST (Japan System Techniques(?)) mentioning a STEAM release:

As for myself, I can tell you that JAST has indeed contacted me. One e-mail even mentioned Steam being interested in a playable demo.  - Quote from VNshourai

And even more information to back up this rumor comes from a radio interview with the director Chiyomaru in late 2011. [HIDERADIO Hideo Kojima's (Creator of Metal Gear Series) Radio Show] where he mentions his plan to popularize ADV games outside Japan. Below are excerpts from the interview

Chiyomaru: After succeeding with Robotic Notes, the next title will be created with Kojima and be released outside Japan. The plan is to create fans for the ADV genre.

Chiyomaru: My strategy for the foreign market is to make sure that these titles get popular within Japan before releasing them overseas. After the title becomes popular in Japan, the fans overseas will surely catch on to it, which will give us confidence to release an international version.

An english release is definitely in line with his strategy. Also the new title Chiyomaru and Kojima are working on will be showcased in this years E3

    • Steins;Gate has a PC version you know.

In fact, considering JAST mostly releases PC eroge, I doubt they’ll release it on anything BUT this PC.

Also, PSP isn’t totally dead, several PSP games have been released in the U.S. recently, including a PSP Otome Game(a female targeted equivalent of Bishoujo Games), so it being released on PSP isn’t an impossibility.

  1. If they released it on steam, i’d buy it in a heartbeat, wouldn’t even wait for a steam sale. I can understand steam not wanting to have +18 & loli VN’s on steam, but i don’t see why they couldn’t release all ages titles on it. I know a lot of people who would buy this immidiatly if it was officially released and easy to obtain (steam).

I really really hope this will work out somehow, cause as of know i only got to play the translated fanrelease, and if they would notice that there is a decent enough market for visual novels on steam, maybe we will have more official/faster translations instead of having to wait X couple of years/months on a fantranslated version. (Not that i have anything against fansubs/translations, but this way the developers of visual novels will be more willing to translate it in english)

  2. According to the sell out- er, I mean Head Translator of the new project, JAST said steam didn’t say anything about wanting to release it on steam. They did, however, claim Nitro+ is interested. Whether this is true and 5pb will also be up for it remains to be seen.

Don’t get your hopes up TOO much, JAST said the same thing about Chaos;Head and even went so far as to take down fan translation patches, yet we haven’t seen hide nor hair of it. Also, it SURE is taking them a while to release School Days HD, even though the fan translators they teamed up with were half-way done.

Really, it’s best to just use the existing 95% complete unedited patch, and if it gets release, buy it if you want.

    • You seem to be forgetting that it took Sekai Project 3 years to get “halfway done” with School Days. Nonetheless, I do believe that the school days translation is less than a couple months off from what I’ve been reading.
